The Minister served in the State Parliament from 1993 to 2010.
As Minister for Planning and Infrastructure from 2001 to 2008, Ms MacTiernan was responsible for major projects across the State including the Mandurah rail line, the Forrest Highway, the Geraldton port and rail expansion and the Armadale town centre and Champion Lakes developments.
In 2011 she was elected Mayor of the City of Vincent and in 2013 was elected as the Member for Perth to the Federal Parliament, where she became Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Western Australia and Deputy Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Northern Australia.
After Ms MacTiernan decided not to recontest Perth in 2016, she was invited to re-join WA Labor in the Legislative Council.
After being elected in 2017, she was appointed Minister for Regional Development and Agriculture and Food and Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade.
The Minister is committed to creating economic opportunity in our regional areas as well as bringing WA's agricultural sector into the 21st century through innovation and a focus on investing in science.
She plans to resign from cabinet by the end of 2022 and resign from parliament in early 2023.

Andy and Debbie have since retired and handed the business down to their daughter and son in law Shay-lee and Nathan Thiele.

Dynamic and deeply engaged in the Albany community, Rebecca was elected to the 41st Parliament of WA on 13 March 2021 as the Member for Albany. She is incredibly proud to represent the community that she grew up in and is so profoundly connected to.
Born in 1983 in Albany and educated at Albany Senior High School, Rebecca has spent her life supporting and lifting up her community, through community service, her role as a councillor for the City of Albany and, now, as your local Member of Parliament.
Rebecca is qualified in marketing, event management, tourism, training and careers and has worked as a consultant, business owner and regional manager across a wide range of industries.
Married with two young children, Rebecca is a longstanding volunteer with the Albany Surf Lifesaving Club has served on the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Committee.
Hard-working, committed and energetic, Rebecca champions the community of Albany as an enthusiastic leader, listening keenly to those she represents and presenting innovative solutions and ideas for the betterment of Albany and its citizens, ensuring the regional centre’s strong future.
As part of Premier Mark McGowan’s team, Rebecca is working hard to deliver WA Labor’s plans for Albany to create more local jobs, deliver new infrastructure projects and provide quality health and education services for the community.
